Our Beliefs
What We Believe
The Apostles' Creed -
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; \from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
*means universal
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are one in essence and equal in power and glory. In describing God’s work, we sometimes use the terms Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
God the Father — Creator
We believe in God the Father, the Creator of all things, who sovereignly rules over the universe. He is holy, loving, and just, and He graciously extends His love and mercy to all people.
Jesus Christ — Redeemer
We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully human, the only Son of God. He lived a sinless life, was crucified for our sins, and was raised from the dead.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the risen Lord who offers forgiveness of sins and abundant life to all who trust in Him. As Savior and Lord, He calls us to follow Him and to pattern our lives after His.
The Holy Spirit — Sustainer
We believe that the Holy Spirit is God present with us. The Spirit convicts the world of sin, awakens us to God’s will, and empowers believers to live in obedience.
The Holy Spirit comforts, guides, and transforms us, forming us into the likeness of Christ and sustaining us in faith.
Human Beings
We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are designed for relationship with Him.
Because of sin, that relationship is broken, and all people are in need of God’s grace. Each person is given the responsibility to respond to God’s invitation, either accepting or rejecting a relationship with Him.
Salvation
We believe that salvation is the gift of God’s grace, made possible through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We believe that all people are sinners and in need of forgiveness. Salvation comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by human effort or good works.
Through salvation, we are forgiven, reconciled to God, and given new life. The Holy Spirit begins a transforming work within us, calling us to grow in holiness and live as followers of Jesus.
The Church
We believe that the church is the body of Christ, called to continue His mission in the world.
The church is the “communion of saints,” made up of all believers—past, present, and future. As the people of God, we gather to worship, grow in faith, encourage one another, and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Bible
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God, inerrant in its teaching and fully trustworthy in all that it affirms concerning salvation.
It reveals God’s character, His redemptive plan, and His will for our lives, and it is to be studied, trusted, and obeyed.
Baptism and Communion
We believe that Baptism and Holy Communion are sacred acts, sacraments, of the church.
Baptism is a sign of new life in Christ and a public declaration of faith, marking our identification with Jesus in His death and resurrection.
Holy Communion is a means of grace in which we remember Christ’s sacrifice, celebrate His presence, and are spiritually nourished as we partake of the bread and the cup.
Communion is celebrated on the 1st Sunday of the Month at the Village Church.
